It was dark. What the fuck else was new right? Hell if it was always light then what the hell would be the point of the glowing yellow ball called the moon in the sky? Crickets chirped as the elemental walked around. Not really anything else to fuckin do after all so hey she dealt with it. Tonight Cas was on call. Of course really every night the detective was on call. Except the weekends, her boss, meaning her dad, made sure she had those to go out and work at the bar. Granted he wasn’t the biggest fan of it but fuck it that didn’t matter either. Cas did what she wanted with her life. But what she was about to do was by far the stupidest thing that anyone of her breed could have possibly done. Ya see she wasn’t here looking for anything in particular. Just here looking at the graves of those she had done work for, homicide was where she had chosen her profession, talk about dreary.
A spark appeared in her and as her fingers snapped. It didn’t last long, just long enough for her to read the name on the stone she was standing next to. Olivia Benson. She had been a rape case gone bad. Poor girl had jumped off a building while Cas was trying to coax her down. If Zach had been there the electric was sure he would have just grabbed the bitch and taken her back through the window. But the girl had been the same size as the elemental and frankly she wasn’t yet able to lift her own weight, close but not yet. Saying a silent hello and good bye she moved on through the cemetery. Probably the worst fuckin place to be for any cop no matter their department. The next stone another spark, not one she knew and so she moved on.
Finally getting through the whole place she sat down under one of the big trees and sighed. Her pager beeped and for a second she thought about ignoring it. Finally she reached down with her right hand and unclipped it from next to her service weapon, oh the joys of bein a cop, ya got a gun. Pressing the button the little screen on the device lit up. Not an SOS call, just her dad asking what she was up to. Taking her phone from her pocket she hit the speed dial for the old man and waited through the rings. “Spinner.” Was the answer on the other end. “You really have to ask what I’m up to through a page and not just pick up and dial my damn number?” Cas said with a laugh. Yup that was her dad for ya. “Wasn’t sure if you were busy. Would you mind coming down to the station letter came in.” her heart froze at the sound of a letter. “Zach?” she said her voice low almost sure the man on the other end hadn’t heard her. “Yes.” Was the simply answer to her question. “I’ll be in by sunrise.” She said and hung up the phone.
Now she just sat there under the tree. Zachariah was one of her oldest friends. Another elemental like herself, in fact so close to her really, he was another with the power for electricity. He was the reason she knew how to control her power, well him and his family before they moved away. This would make the fifth letter in as many weeks. After not hearing from him for years he suddenly started contact again. The first letter saying that within the year he would be coming back. Just like herself he had taken up in the field but not in homicide, smart man. He was a detective for anything actually. The threw him on whatever case came along, apparently the best in the city he was living in. That didn’t surprise Cas. Just like her he had been gifted with a brain, he was a genious and it came in handy around their jobs. Standing up finally she brushed dirt off the back of her faded blue jeans and put her hands in the pockets of her leather jacket. Sighing Cas set back off for the 1982 mustang that was parked just outside the gates to the haunted place. Just for fun she snapped her fingers again and made another spark. Having the ability was so much fun.
