Again she found herself in the graveyard. Probably the one place she needed to stop finding herself. But the woman couldn’t seem to help going there and looking over the grave markers of those that she had seen fall and those she had investigated. Always she went to the funerals, mostly on invites from the families, sometimes just because .she knew many of the names carved into the stone slabs and hated it. Yes she kenw what job she had signed up for but that didn’t make it any better. Sighing she took a seat on the ground in front of a stone. One she put flowers at every other week. The name was Thomas Kizer. The twin brother to her long time friend. He had been a light element, odd one out in a family of electric. But he had treated her as a sister and she loved him as a brother much as she did Zach. “Hey Thomas.” She said with a soft smile. “Sorry it’s been a few days. The cases are running me down.” She told him about the serial murders that had begun happening. They weren’t on elementals like the other chain of murders she was investigating. Her partner was beginning to worry about her some, she could tell. “I think dad is worried too. Can’t seem to wait till Zach comes in to town.” Cas gave a small chuckle and didn’t say anything for a few minutes. Her thoughts had drifted to ach. “You’d be proud of him.” She finally said knowing that Zach took the profession his brother had wanted to do. Zach had wanted to be a doctor but loved his brother so lived his dream. He was bright enough to doeither jobs. She fell silent again, no longer wanting to talk to her friend’s spirit. The sun was setting in the west and it made the sky red.
Laying back Cas watched as the sky’s shades changed. Off to the east it still held the shades of blue and as it moved west it turned to light shades of purple and then darker till maroon then red followed to the golden orange. Twilight was the best time to watch the moods of the sky. The detective sighed and shut her vibrant yellow eyes blocking out the light. The days were wearing her out. She loved her job but these murders were on a roll so to say. Opening her eyes she watched clouds slowly move with the soft soaring winds. “Get it together Spinner.” She said and stood up looking down she smiled to Thomas. “I’ll be back soon.” She said and turned to her right beginning to head back to the gates. She hadn’t driven today but she hadn’t thought she would be there for hours. Was beginning to regret not driving. Weaving her way through the stones she cursed as she kicked a low marking. It was steadily getting darker, where she wasn’t wasn’t worried about being lost, seeing all the grave markers at night was difficult. Since her run in a few weeks ago she had stopped using her electrical power here. It was too open, far too open. Cas wound her way and thought she spotted one of her markers to let her know she was going correctly through the massive hallowed grounds. The Kizers had placed Thomas towards the very back along with his ancestors that were placed before him. But getting closwer she didn’t find the angel that marked halfway. It was the Gargoyle that marked she had gone too far east. By now the sky was covered in darkness. “Just great.” She growled and started to back track. “Good think I don’t work tonight.” It was then that her phone rang. Cursing again she pulled it from her pocket and saw it was an unknown number.
“Spinner.” She said answering the call. “You sound just like your father.” The voice on the other end was male and made her almost drop the phone. “Zach?” Cas asked stopping in her tracks. “Hey Sparky.” His voice changed slightly. “Thought I’d let you know I was in town. See you soon.” With that he hung up. She pulled the phone from her ear and stared at it. The elemental was in a state of shock. Other then letters she hadn’t heard from him and now he had called. Starting her trek again the electric was dazed. Walking, just making sure to put one foot in front of the other she almost missed when she reached the angel that looked down towards the ground. The watcher and protector. But she kept going, headed for the gates and then maybe the station tracking down that number. It wasn’t until she ran into a stone she ame back to her mind. Looking around the woman felt foolish. Not paying attention to her surroundings was stupid and foolish on so many levels. “Get yourself killed.” She chastised and continued to the gates. Looking around she couldn’t see anyone in the darkened area. Sparks flew from her fingers with a snap. She was edgy. Raising both hands she snapped her fingers again and lightning flew to her palm on the other. It bounced back to her right palm and she seemed to be holding lightning in her hand. Finally the sparks went down to be eaten by the ground. Her night vision was screwed but the gates loomed in front of her. Going to the other side of the wall she leaned against it blinking her eyes. The street was deserted but no one seemed to notice her other then the usual glances. They hadn’t seen her release the electricity which was good. The elemental was taking unneeded risks. Not so smart. Getting away from the wall she went over to stand in the circle of light from a lone street lamp. This was the way home after all, well home to the station.
